Error description

  • When integrating IBM Rational ClearCase Unified Change
    Management (UCM) with IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC) via the
    Change Management Integration, multiple UCM activities cannot be
    associated with a single RTC Work Item.
    
    This is necessary to support the following use case:
    - When a Work Item is fixed/implemented, but subsequent testing
    leads to more work, the additional work should be done in the
    context of a new activity that is linked to the same Work Item.
    
    Steps to reproduce:
    1) Create an RTC Work Item
    2) Create a UCM activity in one stream and and associate it with
    that workitem.   ("Activity_1")
    3) Create a second UCM activity and attempt to associate it with
    the same workitem ("Activity_2")
    4) Observe the error:
    cleartool: Error: This task is already associated with activity:
    Activity_1
    

Local fix

  • A related Work Item can be created in RTC this workitem can be
    associated with the original Work Item.

Problem conclusion

  • The Change Management Integration (CMI) will now allow multiple
    activities on the same stream to be associated with an RTC Work
    Item or ClearQuest record.
    
    A fix is available in ClearCase versions 8.0.0.12 and 8.0.1.5
