Error description

  • The DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS' ADB2GEN function used by
the DB2 Object Comparison Tool for z/OS issues a message:
"Object definitions extracted from <ssid> (DB2 version nnnn)."
based on the values in the first found DSNDECP rather than
from the subsystem it is being executed upon which can result in
the DB2 subsystem and/or the version information being
incorrect ( non-existent subsystem id or the version being shown
at the local subsystem level rather than the remote subsystem
    level.

    ****************************************************************
    1- The DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS' ADB2GEN program
displays an invalid DB2 subsystem name in the error message
when the local DB2 subsystem name is different than the
    SSID value in DSNHDECP.

For example, when performing GEN on local DB2 subsystem
ABC and the DB2 version is 1015, and the SSID value in
DSNHDECP is XXX, the following message is observed:

'Object definitions extracted from XXX (DB2 version 1015).'

The message uses the SSID value in the DSNHDECP, but this
SSID is not the DB2 subsystem name that it is being executed
    upon.

2- In the DB2 Object Comparison Tool for z/OS , when selecting
the source or target from the DB2 catalog on a remote DB2
subsystem and the remote DB2 subsystem's DB2 version is
different than the local DB2 subsystem's DB2 version, GEN
    reports an invalid DB2 version.

For example, if the local DB2 subsystem version is 1015, and
the remote DB2 subsystem is YYY and its DB2 version is 915,
    GEN issues the following message:

'Object definitions extracted from YYY 915 (DB2 version 1015)'

The correct DB2 version 915 should be reported in the DB2
    version.

Problem conclusion

  • Problems have been resolved.

1- When performing GEN on the local DB2 subsystem ABC
and DB2 version is 1015, and the SSID value in DSNHDECP is
XXX, the following message will be displayed:

'Object definitions extracted from ABC (DB2 version 1015).'

The correct SSID displayed is the DB2 subsystem name that it
is being executed upon, not the DSNHDECP value.

2- If the local DB2 subsystem version is 1015, and the remote
DB2 subsystem is ZZZ and the DB2 version is 915, GEN will
    now issue the following message:

'Object definitions extracted from ZZZ 915 (DB2 version
    915)'.

The correct DB2 version 915 will now be reported.
