Error description
DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS Change Management does not specify enough information when dealing with IDENTITY values
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the DB2 Object Comparison Tool * * for z/OS who specify value 'Computed' for * * field 'IDENTITY START value' on panel * * GOC5 'Generate Compare Jobs' for a table * * containing an identity column, and there * * are changes on a table causing the table * * to be dropped and recreated. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When altering a table containing an * * identity column, and the table needs * * to be dropped and recreated after * * specifying 'Computed' for the field * * IDENTITY START value' on panel GOC5, * * the verification step in the Compare * * job failed with RC=8 / Return Code 8, * * and an error message ADBC099E / * * msgadbc099e is displayed in the * * job log: * * * * ADBC099E: WSL mismatch. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** If 'Computed' is specified for 'IDENTITY START value' field, the computed value will be based upon the existing identity column attributes at the time the DDL is produced, such as MAXASSIGNED and the current cache size. Any changes made after the creation of the DDL, to either the identity values or to the data, are not reflected in the DDL, and as a result, the DDL is obsolete. The product will not locate an unassigned value from the existing data, and ultimately a new RESTART value might need to be provided based upon the underlying data and the application needs. So, if the computed value for the identity column was different from its real value, the verification step will fail with the error message ADBC099E /msgadbc099e as expected. The user should provide the correct start value of the identity column to avoid the failure .
Problem conclusion
The description of 'IDENTITY START value' field on help panel GOC5H 'HELP: Generate Compare Job' has been improved. A note was added to explain the computed value: Note: If Computed is specified, the computed value will be based upon the existing identity column attributes at the time the DDL is produced, such as MAXASSIGNED and the current cache size. Any changes made after the creation of the DDL, to either the identity values or to the data, are not reflected in the DDL and, make the DDL obsolete. The product will not locate an unassigned value from the existing data, and ultimately a new RESTART value might need to be provided based upon the underlying data and the application needs.
