APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• After upgrading an IBM Rational ClearCase host running Oracle
  Solaris 10 host to ClearCase 8.0.1, the following errors may be
  seen in the vob_scrubber log or in error messages in the
  ClearCase job scheduler.
  
  vob_scrubber: Error: db_VISTA error -901 (errno == "Too many
  open files")
  vob_scrubber: Error: Cannot open database in
  "/vobstore/vob-32.vbs/db"
  vob_scrubber: Error: Error from VOB database: "/vobs/vob-32".
  vob_scrubber: Error: Trouble opening VOB database:
  "/vobs/vob-32".
  

Local fix

• 32-bit processes on Solaris 10 hosts are limited to 256 file
  descriptors. There is a special "extended file descriptor"
  support library that can be loaded to prevent this problem from
  occurring.
  
  To work around this issue, add the following lines to
  /opt/IBM/RationalSDLC/clearcase/etc/clearcase immediately
  following the "# Start/stop ClearCase daemons." comment:
  LD_PRELOAD_32=/usr/lib/extendedFILE.so.1
  export LD_PRELOAD_32
  ulimit -n 1024
  
  This will enable the extended file descriptor support for the
  albd and its child processes (the scheduled scrubbing jobs). To
  successfully run the commands manually, at a minimum, the
  LD_PRELOAD_32 environment variable has to be set as described
  above.
