PI14568: ABEND0C4-11 AFTER USER FORCES DEVICE OFFLINE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• ABENDS0C4-11 occurred after user forced device offline because
  of I/O error.  An error message will be issued instead.

Problem summary

  *                      after I/O error on a muti volume SLDS   *
  *                      into a U0385-04 abend.                  *

  * RECOMMENDATION: INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF      *
  ****************************************************************
  An I/O error on multi volume SLDS caused the DCB to be closed
  and DRF to abend on S0C4 attempting to issue a READ. This APAR
  will detect a closed DCB and issue U0385-04 abend.
  

Problem conclusion

• S0C4 abend trying to issue a READ with a closed DCB has been
  changed to User Abend. This APAR detects the condition and
  issues a User Abend.
