Error description

  • Tivoli Storage Manager USS client can report extraneous message
    in dsmerror.log like:
    
    
    Block header invalid, possible memory overwrite.   Addr

    if dsmcad is stopped with a kill command (manually or by a tool
    like System Automation).
    
    ie
    kill <dsmcad process id>
    
    The messages being reported have no consequences and can be
    ignored.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Client for USS version 6.1.x

Local fix

  • Use 'kill -9 <dsmcad process id>' to stop the dsmcad process
    if the messages are undesired.

    The problem was caused by unique behavior of the fork()
    function on UNIX System Services.  The thread code in TSM
    needed to take this unique behavior into account
    

Problem conclusion

  • The TSM thread code was modified to accomodate the unique
    behavior.
