Error description

  • When working in a region synchronized Unix/Linux IBM Rational
    ClearCase dynamic view on a Microsoft Windows client, you will
    be unable to see the vob contents if the Unix/Linux vob has
    Access Control Lists (ACLs) enabled.

    This issue does not occur on a Unix/Linux client accessing an
    ACL enabled vob using a Unix/Linux hosted view. This does not
    occur from a Windows client accessing an ACL-enabled vob using a
    Windows hosted view.

    This does not occur if the user is the vob owner.

    * Users of IBM Rational ClearCase on Microsoft Windows, when *
    * using a dynamic view remotely hosted on a Unix or Linux *
    * server, and with ACLs enabled for ClearCase objects. *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * A ClearCase Windows client using a Unix/Linux view to access *
    * an ACL-enabled VOB may get access denied errors even though *
    * the client's primary group matches the owner group of the *
    * VOB. One manifestation could be a "dir *
    * /acl-enabled-vob-name" command showing no contents in the *
    * VOB with no other apparent error. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • ClearCase versions 8.0.1.11 and 9.0.0.1 have been modified to
    check the primary group as well as the grouplist when looking
    for a matching group during ACL checks.
