Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM IMS High Performance Pointer Checker for * * z/OS Version 3 Release 1 (FMID=HPC2310) * * users who run HD Pointer Checker (HDPC) in * * stand-alone (FABPMAIN) jobs. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: HP Pointer Checker is enhanced to * * process a large number of databases or * * HALDB partitions. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the maintenance for this APAR. * **************************************************************** This APAR provides the following enhancements: When HD Pointer Checker processes a large number of database resources that are databases or HALDB partitions, it requires large space for work data sets. This APAR provides the following enhancements to support the larger number of database resources. (1)Work data set dynamic allocation If 3390-3 DASD volumes are used, a lot of DASD volumes are required for allocating work data sets, because 3390-3 DASD has a small capacity. This APAR increases the number of DASD volumes at work datasets dynamic allocation. As the result, the maximum number of volumes is increased from 20 to 59 for work data set dynamic allocation. This changes is effective if the work datasets are dynamic allocated. So, this change is not effective if the work dataset DD statements are specified in HD Pointer Checker JCL. (2)Large format dataset To utilize large capacity DASD volumes effectively, this APAR supports Large format data set for work data sets. The work data set DD statements that are changed by (1) and (2) are MERGIN, MERGINnn, MERGI2, MERGI2nn, SORTE2, SORTE2nn, and IXKEY. (nn is numeric suffix) (3)Sort work data sets HD Pointer Checker calls sort program internally. This APAR increases the value of SORT parameter OPTION DYNALLOC=(,n). By increasing the value, the sort work data sets can be allocated on more DASD volumes when small DASD volumes are used.
