Error description

  • Environment:
    Windows 7 (64-bit), IE 10 (32-bit), Adobe 11, RFT 8.5

Customer has provided a zip file to demonstrate the issue

    Steps to reproduce...
    1. Unzip attached zip file to your desktop (or create an
HTML page with a PDF iframe ? an HTML iframe with form elements
    in it)
    2. Make sure Adobe Reader or Foxit* are enabled to show
    PDFs in Internet Explorer
    3. Open the index.html file in your IE browser
    4. Open RFT ? inspect the INPUT tag in the IFRAME.

*Note: While Foxit is not supported by RFT, the customer is not
doing any manipulation of Foxit objects.

Normally the inspector will show the INPUT tag as the lowest
level, but instead it only sees the HTML document ? nothing
further. If you disable the Adobe Reader or Foxit plugin, the
inspector will be able to see the INPUT tag in the IFRAME
correctly. Unfortunately disabling the Adobe Reader plugin is
not a viable workaround for us. Just to clarify - the inspector
mimics the same results (not being able to find the object) when
    running a script in RFT.

RFT is unable to drill down supported controls inside
frames/iframes if another frame on the page has pdf
    contents.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem has now been fixed and RFT is able to drill down
supported controls in frames/iframes even if another frame
on the page has contents as PDF.
