APAR status

Error description

  • After updating IBM Rational ClearCase to version 8.0.0.8 on a
    Microsoft Windows host, no merge windows will be displayed if
    attempting to perform a merge in ClearTeam Explorer if the merge
    provider is set to 'ClearCase External'.
    
    The internal Eclipse text merge tool will start correctly. It is
    ONLY the 'ClearCase External' merge provider that fails.
    
    Launching manually-defined external merge providers works
    correctly.
    

Local fix

  • The ClearCase merge tool can be manually configured to start by
    creating a separate merge provider for the ClearCase text
    diff/merge tool. To do this:
    1) In ClearTeam Explorer, select Window / Preferences
    2) Navigate through "IBM Rational ClearTeam Explorer" ->
    "Integration" -> "Compare/Merge" -> Merge Providers
    3) Click New, Enter values similar to the following:
    Provider Name: Cleardiffmrg Manual
    path:
         For Full ClearCase installs: {Path to
    ClearCase}\bin\cleardiffmrg.exe
         For remote-client only installs: {Path to IMSHARED
    dir}\plugins\com.ibm.rational.clearcase.compare_merge.win32.x86_
    8.0.0.v20130828_0512\ccrc_cleardiffmrg.exe
    
    Supports Compare Operations: checked
    Arguments: %contribs%
    
    Supports merge operations: Checked
    Arguments: -to %merge_out% -base %base% %contribs%
    
    4) Click OK, then apply, Then OK again to exit the preferences
    window.
    5) Reopen the preferences window using Window/Preferences. You
    should be at the Manage providers page.
    6) Select "Compare/Merge" in the left hand pane.
    7) For the default merge provider, select "Cleardiffmrg Manual"
    8) Select OK.
    
    At this point, the standard Windows ClearCase diff/merge tool
    will be started for file merges.
