Error description
The IBM Enterprise COBOL compiler (IGYCRCTL) ABENDs with system completion code S0C4 reason code 00000011 (storage protection exception) when the SYSIN DD is allocated using PATH= to a zFS file instead of a traditional DSN= PDS member. The crash occurs during compiler initialization, before any compilation begins. No active module is found in the symptom dump, indicating the fault occurs in the OMVS kernel path during the zFS file open.
Local fix
The issue is located on July 2026 PTF. Use a different version as a workaround.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6.5 compiling * * COBOL programs where the SYSIN DD has been * * allocated to Unix file, and the user is NOT * * using cob2. The user may, for example, be * * invoking the compiler from JCL with the * * SYSIN DD is pointing to a Unix file. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The compiler abends with system return * * code 0C4 when invoked from JCL and the * * SYSIN DD has been allocated to a Unix * * file. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** The compiler erroneously processes the SYSIN DD when it is allocated to a Unix file, and the compiler was invoked via JCL (or in an environment where no Unix file descriptors already exist), resulting in a compiler ABEND.
Problem conclusion
The compiler was rectified to correctly process the SYSIN DD in the above situation.
