During the recovery of a large number of DEDB AREAs with the ADD
IC option specified, the DRF MAS abended with U1002-00000004
    within IMS module DFS3DBLC.
In an IMS mACBs environment, when ADD IC is specified, DRF
retrieves DBD information from the IMS catalog using the IMS
DFS3CATQ macro. An ABEND U1002-00000004 occurred within the IMS
module DFS3DBLC, which was called by the DFS3CATQ macro.
According to the IMS manual, this ABEND U1002-00000004 indicates
a GETMAIN failure due to insufficient storage.
During the recovery of a large number of DEDB AREAs, a large
number of DBD retrievals from the IMS catalog occurred. Since
the DRF had not released the storage used for those DBD, a
storage shortage occurred, causing this problem.
Note that this issue may occur not only with DEDB but also with
FF DB and HALDB, and even when ADD PC or ADD IB is specified, if
a single DRF job is recovering a large number of DBDSs.

    IMSMGDACBS/K

Problem conclusion

  • DRF has been modified to release the storage for DBD obtained
using the IMS catalog API (DFS3CATQ) once that DBD is no longer
    needed.
