Error description
At CICS TS 6.2, the format of the DFHCE3549 terminal signon message changed. The change included a last logon date and time as well as a failure count in addition to the existing text indicating a successful signon. The additional text also caused the message to start on line 23 instead of line 24 of a standard 24x80 screen. The 6.2 and above version of the message is: DFHCE3549 Sign-on is complete after 0 failed attempts. Last access: 01/01/2026 at 14:06:01. (Language ENU). APAR PH70708 added a feature toggle com.ibm.cics.message.dfhce3549.long so you could revert the message back to how it was prior to CICS 6.2. The previous version of the message was: DFHCE3549 Sign-on is complete (Language ENU). With PH70708 applied, abends can be seen during sign on. Examples of abends that may be seen are: +DFHPG0001 applid An abend (code 0C4/AKEA) has occurred at offset X'335E' in module DFHPGPG +DFHAP0001 applid An abend (code 0C6/AKEA) has occurred at offset X'FFFFFFFF' in module DFHSNP. Using that feature toggle to revert the message back would also cause you to have to clear the screen first before entering any transactions.if you enter a transaction after the message is issued without first clearing the screen, you see an error stating that transaction `DFHC' either is not recognised (reported via message DFHAC2001) or can not be run (reported by message DFHAC2016). The error message seen depends on whether or not you have a transaction called DFHC defined in the region. KIXREVQWD

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS Users with PH70708 - UO08204, * * UO08203 applied. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Abends during sign on can be seen when * * PH70708 is applied. * * * * Message DFHAC2001 or DFHAC2016 can be * * seen after sign on attempting to run a * * transaction when the feature toggle is * * set to 'FALSE'. * **************************************************************** Feature toggle 'com.ibm.cics.message.dfhce3549.long' was introduced by APAR PH70708 to reinstate the pre CICS TS 6.2 version of the DFHCE3549 message. With APAR PH70708 applied and the feature toggle set to 'FALSE', the cursor is positioned on line 1 column 2 when the DFHCE3549 message is output to the terminal. Previously the cursor was placed on line 1 column 1. The terminal buffer is also not cleared. This means that if the screen is not cleared before a transaction is entered, the first four characters of the DFHCE3549 message are taken as the transaction to be run. This results in message DFHAC2001 or DFHAC2016 reporting that DFHC transaction can either not be run, or not be found. It has also been found that with PH70708 applied, regardless of the setting of the feature toggle, R13 incorrectly points to the CSA instead of DFHSNPs DFHEISTG on return from a domain call to inquire on the feature toggle setting. In the case where the feature toggle is set to, or allowed to default to 'TRUE', abends can be seen at sign on.
Problem conclusion
UO08204 UO08203 CICS has been corrected so that the cursor is placed in row 1 column 1 and the terminal buffer is cleared after the DFHCE3549 message is sent to the terminal. DFHSNPs registers are also correctly restored on return from the domain call. The following pages in the CICS TS V6 documentation will be updated to document that screen sizes; 24x80, 32x80, 43x80, 27x132 and 62x160 are supported with the com.ibm.cics.message.dfhce3549.long feature toggle: - Changes to feature toggles - Upgrading between releases with CICS continuous delivery - Changes to externals in CICS TS v6.2 and v6.3 - Feature toggles for CICS TS
