Error description
In an environment where the CICS and ODBA applications pause feature of IMS Tools Common Pauser is used to pause CICS and ODBA application processing, the applications are not paused when the invoking product issues a /DBR AREA command instead of a /DBR DB command. Consequently, CICS and ODBA applications continue to run and may receive DL/I status codes, such as FH, for requests against the affected DEDB area. The FH status code indicates that a DEDB area was inaccessible to the requested service.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * * All users of IBM IMS Tools Base for z/OS * * Version 1 Release 8 (FMID HAHN180) who use * * the IMS Tools Common Pauser, either directly * * or through products that invoke IMS Tools * * Common Pauser, such as the Online Structure * * Change (OSC) utility in IBM IMS Fast Path * * Solution Pack for z/OS. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * * The CICS and ODBA applications pause * * feature of IMS Tools Common Pauser does * * not suspend processing by CICS and ODBA * * applications when a /DBR AREA command * * is issued for a DEDB area instead of * * a /DBR DB command. * * * * As a result, CICS and ODBA applications * * continue processing and might receive * * DL/I status codes, such as FH, for * * requests against the affected DEDB * * area. The FH status code indicates that * * the DEDB area is inaccessible to the * * requested service. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * * Apply the maintenance provided by this APAR. * * If you use the CICS and ODBA applications * * pause feature, regenerate the DFSDBCTG module * * that is customized for use with IMS Tools * * Common Pauser. * * * * For detailed instructions, see * * "(Optional) Enabling the CICS and ODBA * * applications pause feature" in the IBM IMS * * Tools Base for z/OS 1.8 Configuration Guide. * **************************************************************** The CICS and ODBA applications pause feature of IMS Tools Common Pauser suspends PSB scheduling (allocation) requests while a pause condition is in effect. Before this APAR, the function detected a pause condition only when a /DBR DB command had been issued for the target database. When the target resource was a DEDB area, IMS Tools Common Pauser did not detect a /DBR AREA condition. Consequently, the pause function was not activated for DEDB areas that were stopped by using the /DBR AREA command. This APAR adds detection of /DBR AREA conditions for DEDB areas, enabling the CICS and ODBA applications pause feature to function correctly when a /DBR AREA command is used.
