Error description

  • Db2 HPU is likely to unload incorrect data when the following
    conditions are met:
    - a logical unload selects GRAPHIC or VARGRAPHIC data
    - a REFORMAT or INTO clause triggers a conversion from this data
into CHAR or VARCHAR which implies a CCSID conversion from
      DBCS to SBCS or MBCS
    - the CCSIDs involved in the conversion are not both EBCDIC
      CCSIDs
    - additionally, if the unload is performed in native mode (DB2
NO or DB2 YES with a SELECT statement that qualifies for
native processing), one or both of the following conditions
      needs to be met:
        - TRIM YES is specified as an option
        - The GRAPHIC or VARGRAPHIC data concerned by the conversion
is the result of an expression with at least one operand
          or scalar function

When performing the CCSID conversion mentioned above, Db2 HPU
unduly encloses the source data (the GRAPHIC/VARGRAPHIC data)
between shift-out and shift-in characters. While these extra
characters do not always result in visible errors, it frequently
corrupts the converted output in unpredictable ways.

Local fix

  • Modify the unload to replace implicit conversions (from REFORMAT
or INTO clauses) affected by the issue with explicit conversions
using the SQL CAST scalar function. Additionally, if the
affected unload is performed in native mode, run it in SQL mode
by specifying the DB2 FORCE option.
