APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • During JVM server startup, the timeout set by:
    com.ibm.cics.jvmserver.controller.timeout

    is hit and the JVM server starts to disable:

    DFHSJ0918 JVMSERVER xxxxxx is being disabled due to a PHASEOUT
    request.

    In the JVMLOG:
    java.lang.Exception: Server has not responded within xxxxx
    milliseconds

    But it hangs during the disable and CICS has to be recycled to
    bring it down.

Local fix

  • Set a larger timeout value for:
    com.ibm.cics.jvmserver.controller.timeout to
    allow the Liberty server to start normally.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: JVM server hangs during startup after *
    *                      a TimeoutException and message:         *
    *                      DFHSJ0918 JVMSERVER XXXXXXX is          *
    * being disabled due to a PHASEOUT *
    *                      request.                                *
    ****************************************************************
    If a JVM server times out during startup due to setting
    com.ibm.cics.jvmserver.controller.timeout (while bundles are
    being activated) CICS issues message DFHSJ0918 for PHASEOUT
    processing but the JVM server never becomes disabled.
    The dfhjvmlog file shows a com.ibm.cics.router.RouterException
    caused by a java.lang.Exception with message 'Server has not
    started within x milliseconds.' caused by a
    java.util.concurrent.TimeoutException.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS code has been updated to permit an orderly shutdown of the
    JVM server.
