Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS Users                               *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: AKEC and AKEA abends occur when an IPIC *
  *                      connection is stuck in a loop and       *
  *                      runaway detection triggered.            *
  ****************************************************************
  When processing incoming IPIC messages, memory corruption
  caused the field data pointer to incorrectly point to DFHEIUS
  storage instead of a valid IPIC message buffer. This resulted
  in a zero-length field value, creating an infinite loop that
  triggered runaway detection and triggered an AKEC abend.
  

Problem conclusion

• We have added validation to detect zero-length fields before
  entering the loop. When detected, CICS issues DFHIS0002 and
  abends only the affected task.
