    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: z/OS health checker message DFHH0951    *
    * needs to emphasise that CICS XRF *
    * support has been removed. *
    ****************************************************************
Message DFHH0951 reports that CICS has been started with XRF=YES
defined. XRF support has been stablised for many years and will
be withdrawn. The message should be made clearer regarding this.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS has been changed to issue message DFHH0951 as an exception
    rather than a warning message.

The message definition in the "CICS Messages - part 3 DFHSHnnnn
to DFHZNnnnn, and DFHHnnnn messages" manual will be updated as
follows, in Chapter 37. IBM Health Checker for z/OS messages
    related to CICS (DFHHnnnn messages):

    DFHH0951 XRF is in use.
    Explanation:
CICS is running with XRF=YES specified in the SIT. The extended
recovery facility (XRF) support is stabilized. It is IBM's
intention to remove support for XRF=YES in any future releases
of CICS. The Health checker is now reporting this setting as an
error to help draw attention to this fact.
    System action:
    The system continues processing.
    Operator response:
Report this error to the system programmer.
    System programmer response:
Actively review the use of XRF in your CICS environment. You
must move to alternative technologies that provide more flexible
high-availability solutions for modern workloads. These
solutions include the z/OS Automatic Restart Manager (ARM),
CICS data sharing, VTAM persistent sessions, and use of the
cross-system coupling facility. For more information about
stabilized technologies, capabilities, and functions, see
    Stabilization notices and discontinued functions.
