APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • CICS was processing many EXEC CICS LOADs for the same program
    from many concurrent T8 tasks.
During the processing of one LOAD, the task acquired a lock on
    the program's PPTE.
Then the task entered an LMQUEUE suspend to acquire
    the PGLOCK.
While it was in this suspend, a FORCEPURGE was
    issued for the task.
When CICS processed the PURGED response PG domain did not
detect that the task held a lock on the PPTE; therefore, CICS
did not attempt to free that lock.
    After the task termipglocknated,
the PPTE remained in a locked status, and any subsequent tasks
attempting a LOAD for this program were placed in a suspend for
    resource for the program.
    Additional symptoms:
Region hung hang many tasks suspended on
Resource Type PROGRAM with the same program
    name under Resource Name
    Release_Program_Lock LMQUEUE

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: CICS tasks stalled on Program Lock *
    * for the same program. *
    ****************************************************************
CICS is processing many concurrent tasks which each
cause many EXEC CICS LOAD commands to be issued.
Automation issues FORCEPURGE against one or more of the
    tasks.
CICS PG domain does not handle the PURGED response correctly
and leaves the PPTE "Program Lock" set on, which causes
other tasks to queue indefinitely, waiting for the lock
    which will never be released.
    Additional Keywords: PPTE_PROGRAM_LOCK

Problem conclusion

  • CICS, PG domain, has been changed to ensure that
the PPTE's Program Lock is released as part of
    PURGE processing.
