Error description
To expand our UTF-8 support to more closely match our NATIONAL support, Enterprise COBOL will both support moving UTF-8 senders and comparisons between UTF-8 items and all of the following receivers: 1) zoned decimal (incl national decimal) 2) packed decimal (usage comp-3) 3) binary (usage comp, comp-4, binary, comp-5) 4) numeric-edited (incl national numeric edited) 5) external float (incl national ext float) 6) internal float (usage comp-1, comp-2)

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6.5 compiling and * * running programs that 1) perform moves from * * a UTF-8 sender to a category numeric, * * numeric-edited, external float, or internal * * float receiver; or 2) perform comparisons * * between a UTF-8 operand and an operand of * * category numeric or external float. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: New function: 1) Moves from a UTF-8 * * sender to a category numeric, * * numeric-edited, external float, or * * internal float receiver are now * * supported. 2) Comparisons between a * * UTF-8 operand and an operand of * * category numeric or external float * * operand are now supported. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the IBM-provided PTF. * **************************************************************** 1) Performing moves from UTF-8 sender to category numeric, numeric-edited, external float, or internal float receiver were resulting in compilation error IGYPA3005 (move not supported). 2) Performaing comparisons between UTF-8 operand and an operand of category numeric or external float were resulting in compilation error IGYPA3022 (comparison not supported).
Problem conclusion

Comments
The compiler was updated so that 1) user can perform moves from UTF-8 sender to category numeric, numeric-edited, external float, or internal float receiver. 2) user can perform comparisons between UTF-8 operand and an operand of category numeric or external float. For a description of changes related to the support of 1) Move of UTF-8 sender to category numeric, numeric-edited, external float, or internal float receiver; or 2) Comparison of UTF-8 operand with an operand of category numeric or external float, please refer to the following sections in the Enterprise COBOL for z/OS 6.5 IBM Documentation online: 1) Programming Guide -> Coding your program -> Processing data in an international environment -> Using UTF-8 data (Unicode) in COBOL -> Converting to or from UTF-8 (Unicode) representation 2) Programming Guide -> Coding your program -> Processing data in an international environment -> Using UTF-8 data (Unicode) in COBOL -> COBOL statements and UTF-8 data items 3) Language reference -> PROCEDURE DIVISION -> PROCEDURE DIVISION statements -> MOVE statement -> Elementary move rules 4) Language reference -> PROCEDURE DIVISION -> PROCEDURE DIVISION statements -> MOVE statement -> Valid and invalid elementary moves 5) Programming Guide -> Coding your program -> Processing data in an international environment -> Using UTF-8 data (Unicode) in COBOL -> Comparing UTF-8 data 6) Language reference -> PROCEDURE DIVISION -> Procedure division structure -> Conditional expressions -> General relation conditions -> UTF-8 comparisons
