APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The customer added some new functionality to an XICEREQ
exit to ensure that certain EXEC CICS START requests are
bypassed. After deploying the amended exit they encountered
an abend0C4 at x'1EF4' in DFHPGCH. This is due to register 4,
which should contain a pointer to the CHCB_EYECATCHER, being
    corrupt.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS Users. *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABEND0C4 in DFHPGCH when a CICS *
    * XICEREQ GLUE sets UERCBYP to bypass *
    * an EXEC CICS START TRANSID command. *
    ****************************************************************
An application program issues EXEC CICS START TRANSID()
and has an XICEREQ Global User Exit (GLUE) active.
If the XICEREQ GLUE returns a return code of UERCBYP
to CICS, requesting that the command should be bypassed
then CICS can incorrectly call DFHPGCH with an invalid
Channel_Token, leading to the 0C4 abend. The invalid channel
token value was the result of residual TCA data from a previous
    BMS command.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS has been changed to prevent an 0C4 in DFHPGCH
when an XICEREQ GLUE returns UERCBYP.
