PH68839: 0C4 IN DFHRMLSS AFTER CORRUPTION OF STACK

APAR status

Error description

• Abend0C4 in DFHRMLSS during SHUNT processing.
  
  A variable which has a zero length (because the variable has no
  content) is being used to populate an insert for a message
  (DFHRM0106) - and causes an EXecuted MVC for a length of 256
  bytes to wipe out an iterator. Data from beyond the associated
  DFHRMLINK control block can be seen in the stack overlay.

  Some noted DFHRM0001 messages and their offsets:
  
  DFHRM0001 CICSASID An abend (code 0C4/AKEA) has occurred at
  offset X'206E' in module DFHRMLSS.
  
  DFHRM0001 CICSASID An abend (code 0C4/AKEA) has occurred at
  offset X'0250' in module DFHRMLSS.

  CICS is processing a transaction which goes into Shunt
  processing.
  In the reported case, the application was doing WSAT work
  through DFHPIRS.
  DFHRMLSS tries to issue message:
  "DFHRM0106 date time applid Intersystem communication failure."
  but a message insert (the remote system name) is not present.
  Code in DFHRMLSS executes a MVC instruction with a negative
  length, causing a corruption of DFHRMLSS' Kernel Stack
  entry.
  The corruption appears as a corrupted Recovery Manager
  Iterator.
  This can lead to a program check.
  

Problem conclusion

• DFHRMLSS has been corrected to issue message DFHRM0106
  correctly.
