Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All Db2 13 for z/OS users of DSNTXAZP, the * * DSNTIDxx refresh tool. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Currently Db2 configuration parameters * * that are not discoverable by DSNTXAZP * * require manual input for user settings * * in a input member DSNTIDxx file. * **************************************************************** The Db2 CLIST utilizes a DSNTIDxx file as input to generate Db2 jobs to install or migrate Db2. Program DSNTXAZP is called by DSNTIJXZ to discover Db2 configuration parameters that are discoverable and can create a current DSNTIDxx file. However, non-discoverable Db2 configuration parameters require users to manually input their settings into the DSNTIDxx file. To offer a fully automated installation and migration experience, a current and valid DSNTIDxx files that contains all the Db2 configuration parameters is required to generate all the installation or migration artifacts.

Comments
This APAR introduces two new programs, DSNTXAZE and DSNTXAZV, to extract, validate, and merge non-discoverable Db2 configuration parameters into an input member DSNTIDxx file. 1. New Program: DSNTXAZE This program receives an input member DSNTIDxx file and extracts the non-discoverable configuration parameters into the following editable YAML format. Users can choose to update their settings by replacing the value in {parameter value}. # Panel: {panel name} - {panel description} {panel name}: # {field name} (acceptable values) {parameter name} : {parameter value} EX: # Panel: DSNTIPA2 - CATALOG AND DIRECTORY DSNTIPA2: # DEFINE CATALOG ("NO"|"YES") VCATSTAT : YES Notes: - The user ID who submitted the job which executes DSNTXAZE must have an OMVS segment and write access permission to the ZFS directory where the YAML file is created. 2. New Program: DSNTXAZV This program receives an input member DSNTIDxx file and an editable YAML file updated by the user. The program will validate user updated parameters according to the validation that occurs in the Db2 CLIST and merge the resulting parameter values into the input member DSNTIDxx file. Notes: - The user ID who submitted the job which executes DSNTXAZE must have an OMVS segment and read access permission to the ZFS directory where the YAML file is created. This APAR also enhances DSNTXAZP to: - Update Java parameters settings in the CLIST defaults input member (DSNTIDxx) with their current settings. - Generate a YAML configuration parameter file in preparation for the future availability of the Db2 provisioning/cloning capability. 1. New DSNTXAZP ACTION : UPDATE_JAVA Parameters Updated by DSNTXAZP: - DB2BASE (DB2 BASE JAVA DIR) - CLASPATH (JAVA CLASSES) - JAVAENVV (JAVA ENV VAR FILE) - JAVAHOME (SDK HOME DIR) - JCCHOME (JDBC/SQLJ ENV VAR DIR) - JVMPROPS (JVM PROPERTIES FILE) - LIBPATH (JAVA RUNTIME) - JVMAPPH (MAX APPL HEAP SIZE) - JVMHEAP (INIT JAVA HEAP SIZE) These parameters are normally set in the Db2 installation panel DSNTIPX1. Notes: - The user ID who submitted the job which executes DSNTXAZP must have at least READ access to the files and members located in parameter JAVAENV, JAVAENVV, and JVMPROPS. 2. New DD statement: YAOUTPUT (OPTIONAL) //*YAOUTPUT DD PATH='!OUTPUT2!', //* PATHMODE=(SIRWXU,SIRWXG,SIRWXO), //* PATHOPTS=(OWRONLY,OCREAT) This is used as output by the DSNTXAZP program. The DD statement contains the generated configuration parameters YAML file with updated settings for all parameters. This should be an existing absolute path and name of the YAML file. The DD statement is OPTIONAL. To generate the YAML file, uncomment the YAOUTPUT DD statements and provide a valid file path. Notes: - The user ID who submitted the job which executes DSNTXAZP must have an OMVS segment and write access permission to the ZFS directory where the YAML file is created.
