PH68149: CMNF CAUSING 0C4/AKEA IN DFHDSTCB DURING SHUTDOWN

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• During a shutdown of CICS there is an 0C4/AKEA abend at X'0908'
  in DFHDSTCB
  
  Having brought up a small number of CICS regions they
  were shutdown in preparation for a wider initiation of the whole
  enterprise.
  
  Checking the logs afterwards showed the 3 of the regions
  
      ZZD1AAAA (TOR on MVDA)
      ZZD2ABAB (TOR on MVDB)
      ZZD3BCAB (AOR on MVDC)
  
  had all taken the following system dump during the shutdown
  process ...
  DFHDS0001 ZZD1ABAB An abend (code 0C4/AKEA) has occurred at
  offset X'0908' in module DFHDSTCB.  The underlying problem
  that during shutdown, monitoring gates had been quiesced.  But
  DFHMNOF then tried to make a monitoring domain call.  This
  abended AKEF ( correct - gate inactive ), but DFHDSTCB was
  subsequently driven and due to a null pointer being referenced,
  abended 0C4.

Local fix

Problem summary

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Abends AKEF and 0C4 during shutdown.    *
  ****************************************************************
  CICS was shutting down; in doing so, the monitoring domain
  gates had quiesced.  OTEL monitoring was active and DFHMNOF
  attempted to call DFHMNOT even though the gate was quiesced.
  This abended AKEF (correctly as the gate is inactive), but
  DFHDSTCB was driven as part of this processing and referenced
  a null pointer field which caused the 0C4.  The only valid
  system state for DFHMNOF to make domain calls is NOTSHUTDOWN.
  

Problem conclusion

• DFHMNOF has been modified to not make domain calls in
  any SHUTDOWN state other than NOTSHUTDOWN.
