PH68079: STORAGE OBTAIN FAILURE IN IMS HP IMAGE COPY WHEN NUMBER OF TARGET DBDS/AREA IS LARGE IN IMS MANAGMENT ACBS ENVIRONMENT

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• HPIC does not  free unused storage space, causing storage
  shortages when attempting to process numerous DBDS/AREA entries
  in the IMS management ACBs environment, resulting in IMS catalog
  definition exit abends with U1002.

  *                      storage.                                *

  When IMS management ACBs is enabled and the number of target
  DBDSs or areas is large, the image copy function within DFS3DCNC
  terminates with an ABEND U1002 (ABENDU1002) due to insufficient
  storage.
  
  After retrieving and analyzing DBD information from the IMS
  catalog, IMS HP Image Copy retrieves the next DBD information
  without freeing the storage for the previous DBD information
  that was no longer needed. This resulted in the accumulation of
  unnecessary storage, causing a storage shortage.
  

Problem conclusion

• To prevent storage shortage, the HPIC logic has been modified
  that the obtained storage for retrieving DBD information is
  released before retrieving the next DBD information.
  
  This APAR also improves the efficiency of IMS Catalog access whe
  processing multiple DBDSs/areas of the same DB consecutively.
