Error description

  • The following messages were seen in MSTR job log (the queue
manager was started with MEMLIMIT 3GB): CSQY224I cpf CSQSCTL
Queue manager is short of local storage above the bar CSQY225E
cpf CSQSCTL Queue manager is critically short of local storage
above the bar - take action There are many 64 bit MOMB blocks
pointing to storage with TPFX eyecatchers. The build up of
storage is due to a storage leak of 64bit storage used to hold
topic strings (in this particular case, many copies of the same
topic string). The leak occurs when the storage is allocated
during open processing for a topic object, if the open
subsequently fails before registering the publisher - for
example, due to the security check on the topic failing. In this
case, although it is not possible to see any instances of the
open failing, the doc shows that despite many attempts to open
the topic associated with the topic string seen in the TPFX
blocks, each of which has allocated a block of storage for the
topic string, the topic hasn't been successfully opened since
the queue manager started. This APAR was raised to correct this
    storage leak.

    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Applications failing to open topics *
    * leak storage above the bar, resulting *
    * in a storage shortage, as reported by *
    *                      CSQY224I and CSQY225E.                  *
    ****************************************************************
While opening a topic, storage is allocated to build a copy of
the associated topic string and linked to the handle. If the
MQOPEN fails to open the topic, in some scenarios (for example,
not authorised), this storage is not freed. Over time the amount
of leaked storage can accumulate, eventually leading to a
storage shortage above the bar, which is reported by messages:

'CSQY224I xxxx CSQSCTL Queue manager is short of local storage
    above the bar'
    and
'CSQY225E xxxx CSQSCTL Queue manager is critically short of
local storage above the bar - take action'

Problem conclusion

  • MQOPEN processing for topics is changed to free the allocated
storage when the MQI call is unsuccessful.
