APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • If a data item was defined with a name that had already been
    used in the definition of a user-defined type, an error would
    result by design (IGYDS1587). Similarly, if a type was defined
    using a name that had already been used in the definition of a
    data item, an error would result by design (IGYDS0037).

    * programs containing both a data item *
    *                 definition and a user-defined type           *
    * definition with the same name. *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: New function: A user-defined type and *
    * data item are now allowed to share the *
    *                      same name.                              *

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the IBM-provided PTF.                  *

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • The compiler was updated so that type names and data names are
    entirely independent and can no longer collide with each other,
    so a name can now be used as both a data name and a type name in
    the same scope of a program.
