APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The DFH$XSR REXX exec does not check the return codes after
issuing EXECIO commands. As a result, it is unaware of any
failures that occur during input or output, and it is not
    prepared to handle these failures.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DFH$XSR does not handle failing EXECIO *
    * calls and so may report that the job *
    * has run successfully even if it has *
    *                      failed.                                 *
    ****************************************************************
The DFHSM2R JCL is run to create RACF commands from security
metadata. This invokes DFH$XSR which will not identify if any
EXECIO call fails. This means that DFH$XR runs successfully even
if reads or writes fail. In these scenarios you will see the
following error within the job log along with a more specific
    cause of failure:

IRX0670E EXECIO error while trying to GET or PUT a record.

The job will then continue incorrectly and can result in an RC
0000 which implies there were no issues.

Problem conclusion

  • DFH$XSR has been updated to check the response of EXECIO calls
and exit if a bad response was received, to give a defined
    failure.
