    EDIT TABLE.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Many users prefer using EDIT TABLE interface to easily browse
table data. Some users have no intention to add, update or
delete rows and in many cases, the users do not have the proper
authority for the current EDIT TABLE modes of CHANGE or ADD. For
these users the EDIT TABLE interface allows them to browse the
and protects the data from any user updates.
Unbeknownst to the user, when entering the current EDIT TABLE
modes of CHANGE or ADD, QMF is executing authority checks to the
table. These authority checks can result in SQL code -551
(authority errors). These errors are not externalized to the end
user, but can show up on security reports for the system.
For these users and reasons, this PTF enhances the QMF for
TSO/CICS to support create a read only version of the Edit table
command. Read only feature allows users to browse table data in
read-only interface, where options such as Add, Delete and
    Change is unavailable.
To use the new interface, invoke the table editor via the new
    mode "VIEW". Example:
    EDIT TABLE Q.STAFF (MODE=VIEW
This new mode will check only for Db2 SELECT authority during
invocation. All data will be protected from update, delete and
add. The EDIT TABLE command prompt panel, online help and
messages have been updated and added in support of this
enhancement. See the QMF documentation for additional
    information on this enhancement.
NLF users should look at APAR PH67530 for applicable updates.

Problem conclusion

  • This enhancement introduces a read-only VIEW mode for the QMF
EDIT TABLE interface, allowing users to safely browse table data
It prevents unintended authority checks and disables data
modification options, ensuring a safer and more streamlined
    experience for data viewing.
