  • After migration to IBM MQ 9.4 for z/OS, the CHIN address space
    receives an ABEND0C4: CSQX112E CSQXDISP Dispatcher process error

    0C4-00000011,C=MQ900.940.CHIN,M=CSQXDISP,LOC=CSQAVICM.
    ????????+19066 The program interrupt is in CSECT
    CSQAIVS6+x'6A6'. Reg1 is bad. The code is working with data
    conversion of a message with an MQMD.Format of MQIMSVS and
    byte-swapped (little endian) data. The bug was exposed at V9.4.0
    LTS by changes related to CHIN 64-bit buffers. Additional

    *                      MQFMT_IMS_VAR_STRING format and little  *
    *                      endian data over a Channel, an ABEND0C4 *
    *                      may be experienced in the channel       *
    *                      initiator and MQRC_CONNECTION_BROKEN    *
    *                      may be returned to the putting          *
    *                      application.                            *

    When a message is big enough that data conversion needs to
    allocate a temporary 64-bit buffer for use during data
    conversion, CSQAIVS6 is called to convert the MQIMSVS format
    data, but it uses an intermediate 31-bit pointer to reference
    the data when byteswapping. This results in an incorrect access
    of the buffer and the subsequent S0C4 abend.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Data Conversion now uses a 64-bit pointer to point to the input
    data if in amode64
