PH66017: DOUBLE SYMLINK TO PYTHON BINARY CONTAINING A Z/OS SYSVAR CAUSES VENV ERROR

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Symlinks that contain a z/OS System Variable (sysvar) and point
  to the Python binary may encounter Python application issues if
  two levels of symlink are used.  For example:
  
  /usr -> /$VERSION/usr
  /usr/bin/python -> /usr/lpp/IBM/cyp/v3r11/pyz/bin/python3
  
  Here, the second symlink replaces it's /usr with /$VERSION/usr.
  When this is used, the internal Python prefix path may be
  incorrect, and packages such as venv will output an error:
  
  Error: Command 'Ý'/u/myuser/python/ckvenv/bin/python', '-m',
  'ensurepip', '--up
  grade', '--default-pip'¨' returned non-zero exit status 1.
  

Local fix

• - Do not use symlinks with z/OS sysvars, OR
  - Only use one symlink to the Python binary with a sysvar
