Error description
A new WARNING_DIAGLEVEL0 value has been introduced by this APAR for the ATTRIBUTE1 column of the DSN_PROFILE_ATTRIBUTES profile table. This new value is only valid for MONITOR ALL CONNECTIONS, MONITOR ALL THREADS, MONITOR CONNECTIONS, and MONITOR THREADS for WARNING conditions. When DSN_PROFILE_ATTRIBUTES.ATTRIBUTE1 = WARNING_DIAGLEVEL0, no console messages are generated upon threshold exceedance. *********************************************** Additional keywords: DB2DDF DB2SPM DB2AIV1R6/K

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All Distributed Data Facility (DDF) users, * * particularly those using system profiles * * to monitor remote TCP/IP connections or * * threads. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When a MONITOR ALL THREADS, * * MONITOR THREADS, MONITOR CONNECTIONS, * * or MONITOR ALL CONNECTIONS "WARNING" * * level system profile is used to * * monitor threads or connections at * * a Db2 server, excessive profile * * messages (DSNT77xI) may occur, which * * can be difficult for DBAs to analyze. * * * * These excessive "WARNING" profile * * messages may also occur when using * * the Distributed Connection Control * * (DCC) feature of Db2 AI for z/OS * * (Db2ZAI), which utilizes WARNING * * profiles during the learning process. * **************************************************************** This APAR introduces a new WARNING_DIAGLEVEL0 value for the ATTRIBUTE1 column of the DSN_PROFILE_ATTRIBUTES profile table. This new value is only valid for MONITOR ALL CONNECTIONS, MONITOR ALL THREADS, MONITOR CONNECTIONS, and MONITOR THREADS under WARNING conditions. When DSN_PROFILE_ATTRIBUTES.ATTRIBUTE1 = WARNING_DIAGLEVEL0, no console messages are generated when thresholds are exceeded.

Comments
This APAR is not tied to any function, application compatibility, or catalog level. It will be available on any Db2 13 subsystem or data sharing member with the new function PTF applied. However, if a -START PROFILE command is issued on a Db2 data sharing member without the new function PTF applied, any applicable profile table rows that specify the new WARNING_DIAGLEVEL0 value will be rejected. So the recommendation is to apply the PTF on all data sharing members before using the new attribute value. Once the PTF is applied, both Db2ZAI DCC and users can take advantage of the new diagnostic level. Db2ZAI DCC can use it in the recommended profiles during the learning process to operate in the background without generating unnecessary console messages. Similarly, users can leverage it to suppress console messages as needed. Even though console messages are suppressed when using the new WARNING_DIAGLEVEL0 value, the existing SMF Db2 IFCID 402 DDF statistics records can continue to be used to track if any profile thresholds have been exceeded.
