PH65348: S0C4-00000010 ABEND IN LOAD MODULE CSQXBNTM WHEN CHIN TRACE IS ENABLED

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The abend is actually occurring in CSECT CSQXBNT1 when trying
  to cut a CHIN trace entry at the end of CHIN function
  zutParseTraceRouteHeader. The problem is that the trace data is
  incorrectly passed to the trace routine, which results in the
  end of the variable length trace parameter list not being
  detected correctly. This results in the CSQXBNT1 trace routine
  running off the end of the parameter list which will most
  likely result in an S0C4 abend of some type. This will result
  in the channel process abending and the channel entering a
  stopped state. This problem occurs when processing a trace
  route message with CHINIT trace enabled.

  The code which parses the header of trace route messages
  includes a trace point, which passes an unnecessary parameter to
  a tracing function. As a result of this, an abend may occur.
  

Problem conclusion

• The unnecessary parameter has been removed from the tracing
  function call.
