  * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6.4 compiling and  *
  *                 running programs compiled with the INVDATA   *
  *                 option in effect and where the programs      *
  *                 contain a move from an unsigned numeric      *
  *                 edited item to a signed zoned decimal item.  *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: After the move operation, the receiver  *
  *                      of the move has its sign nibble set to  *
  *                      the non-preferred value x'F' instead of *
  *                      the expected value of x'C'. Note that   *
  *                      when such a value is used in subsequent *
  *                      computations, those computations still  *
  *                      produce correct results.                *

  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the IBM-provided PTF                   *

  The compiler was prioritizing the propagation of invalid zone
  nibbles from unsigned numeric-edited senders to signed zoned
  decimal receivers in move operations, as per the semantics of
  the INVADATA compiler option, but was not ensuring that a valid
  zone nibble of x'F' in an unsigned numeric-edited sender
  produces a preferred positive sign of x'C' in the corresponding
  sign nibble in the receiver.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was updated to ensure that unsigned numeric-edited
  senders containing valid zone nibbles produce the preferred
  positive sign nibble of x'C' when moved to a signed zoned
  receiver.
