Error description

  • If an IMS system resource definition data set (system RDDS) is
protected to access by the UMS DBA userID due to IMS system
administration policy, the IMS Object Discovery will fail for
the IMS data sharing group to which that IMS subsystem belongs.
The failing jobstep name of the failing job is DISCOV and its
program name is IZPSIQR0. The IMS Object Discovery process
should function in an IMS environment where system RDDS access
    is strictly restricted.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: IMS Object Discovery fails if the UMS *
    * DBA user ID lacks access to a system *
    * RDDS or does not have UPDATE access to *
    *                      a RECON data set.                       *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the PTF provided by this APAR *
    ****************************************************************
This APAR addresses two issues related to IMS Object Discovery's
resource access authorities: access to system RDDS data sets and
    access to RECON data sets.
    *
    1. Access to system RDDS data sets
If an IMS system resource definition data set (system RDDS) is
protected from access by the UMS DBA user ID due to IMS system
administration policy, the IMS Object Discovery will fail for
the IMS data sharing group to which that IMS subsystem belongs.
The failing job step is named DISCOV, and its program name is
    IZPSIQR0.
The IMS Object Discovery process should function in an IMS
environment where system RDDS access is strictly restricted.
    *
    2. Access to RECON Data Sets
If the UMS DBA user ID does not have UPDATE access authority
to RECON data sets, the RECON Discovery program of IMS Object
Discovery will fail for the IMS data sharing group to which that
IMS subsystem belongs. The failing job step is named DISCOV,
and its program name is IZPSIQD0.
The RECON Discovery program should work if the DBA user ID
has only READ authority to RECON data sets. Since the RECON
Discovery program only refers to RECON and does not update it,
    READ access is sufficient.

Problem conclusion

  • 1. IMS Object Discovery process has been changed to use IMS
Type-2 QUERY commands instead of accessing RDDS or IMSRSC
Repository to discover IMS online resources. This change
removes the requirement that the IMS subsystems to be
registered to UMS as a data sharing group must be configured
       with RDDS or IMSRSC repository.
    2. IMS Object Discovery process has been changed to access RECON
data sets with READONLY option specified for DBRC API.
