Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6.3 and later *
    *                 releases compiling with TEST(NOSEPARATE)     *
    * or equivalent options and running AMODE 64 *
    * programs which abend or generate *
    *                 a CEEDUMP.                                   *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When COBOL fails to initialize DWARF *
    * information for unknown reasons, *
    * it might cause a possible memory leak. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Install the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    When a program abends or a CEEDUMP is generated, various
    data is extracted from DWARF information which is embedded in
    program objects.

    When COBOL Runtime fails to initialize the DWARF information
    for unknown reasons, internal clean-up logic was inadvertently
    bypassed potentially causing a memory leak.

    COB0603T/K COB0604T/K

Problem conclusion

  • COBOL Runtime logic has been corrected to call the internal
    clean-up routine 'dwarf_finish' when DWARF initialization fails.
