Error description
Message DFS4620E DEDB ALTER VALIDATION ERROR: SHADOW AREA SDEPPART IS LESS FOR ALTERAREA FUNCTION is generated even thoughshadow dataset is larger than the active. In a datasharingenvironment where the area being altered on IMSA is allocatedbut not open on IMSB DMAC is created but not initialized), it ispossible that the the DFS4620E message is generated and thealter fails.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All IMSFP V15 DEDB Alter utility users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DEDB ALTER fails intermittently with * * RC = 8 and message DFS4620E DEDB ALTER * * VALIDATION ERROR: SHADOW AREA SDEP * * PART IS LESS FOR ALTERAREA FUNCTION * * and message DFS4623W NO AREA ATTRIBUTE * * CHANGE FOUND FOR ALTERAREA FUNCTION. * * The DEDB ALTER also fails with RC =8 * * due to missing support for DEDB with * * 1 stage randomizer and 1 area. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF. * **************************************************************** The following three issues are being fixed as part of this APAR related to DEDB ALTER utility - ALTERAREA function. The first issue is related to a shared IMS environment, which had a DEDB area in open state in master ims and not open state in sharing IMS. The DEDB ALTER when executed from master IMS, failed with RC 8 and issued the message DFS4620E DEDB ALTER VALIDATION ERROR: SHADOW AREA SDEP PART IS LESS FOR ALTERAREA FUNCTION in the sharing IMS log. The second issue is related to the issue of message DFS4623W NO AREA ATTRIBUTE CHANGE FOUND FOR ALTERAREA FUNCTION after DEDB ALTER utility is executed. The Customer had defined a larger SHADOW ADS (Area Dataset) to expand the SDEP size without altering the DBD definition of the DEDB. Hence, no DBDGEN and ACBGEN was performed. The Customer then attempted to execute ALTERAREA function of the DEDB ALTER utility during which the message 'DF4623W NO AREA ATTRIBUTE CHANGE FOUND FOR ALTERAREA FUNCTION' was issued. The third issue is related to missing support for DEDB ALTER when using a DEDB with 1 area using a 1 stage randomizer. When DEDB ALTER is executed for a DEDB with one area and 1-stage randomizer, DEDB ALTER will fail with message DFS4614E DEDB ALTER REQUIRES 2 STAGE RANDOMIZER.
Problem conclusion
Module DBFDAU70 is updated to support DEDBs with a 1-stage randomizer and one area. This is an addition to the existing support for the DEDB with 2 stage randomizers. The fix introduced will now validate and consider DEDB with 1 stage randomizer and 1 area for DEDB ALTER and will also restrict issuing message 'DFS4614E DEDB ALTER REQUIRES A 2 STAGE RANDOMIZER' for the above mentioned scenario. Module DBFDASP0 is updated to validate the number of areas in Active and Shadow ADS using 1 stage randomizer defined in a DEDB. Owing to the checks performed, the message 'DFS4620E - DEDB ALTER VALIDATION ERROR: DEDB ALTER REQUIRES A 2-STAGE RANDOMIZER' would not be issued for the above scenario. Post validation, the DEDB ALTER would be executed. Additional checks have been added to DBFDASP0 to validate any change to the database attribute for a DEDB database containing SDEPs. This check ensures the message 'DFS4623W - NO AREA ATTRIBUTE CHANGE FOUND FOR ALTERAREA FUNCTION' isn't issued while using the ALTERAREA function of DEDB ALTER utility. After this maintenance is applied, the restriction requiring a two-stage randomizers to use DEDB ALTER is removed for DEDBs with a single area. Documentation changes: Due to the large number of documentation changes, not all changes can be listed in the APAR closing text. To see a complete list of documentation changes introduced with this APAR, please refer to the documentation hold card in the ++PTF. In general, all text in IBM Documentation like, "The DEDB Alter utility can only be used to alter the database or area definitions of DEDB databases that use two-stage randomizers." will be replaced with text like "The DEDB Alter utility can be used to alter the database or area definitions of a DEDB database that uses a two-stage randomizer or a DEDB database with only one area that uses a one-stage randomizer.
