Error description

  • While running the MGM4SITE_MOVEGM_CAS_RS1 procedure, step 34
fails. GEOTRC messages in Netlog indicate GMSTART RC=0 RSN=0,
followed by repeated indications of postState<CGFAIL>, ending
with step failure after just under 60 seconds:

GEO2408I GMSTART FUNCTION COMPLETED IN 57.31 SECONDS ON

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: GDPS Metro Global - GM *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: MGM4SITE_MOVEGM may fail if global *
    * mirror takes too long to start forming *
    * consistency groups after the session *
    *                      is restarted.                           *
    ****************************************************************
While running the MGM4SITE_MOVEGM_CAS_RS1 procedure, step 34
fails because the restarted global mirror session indicates
persistent consistency group failure for duration of the
    allowed monitoring interval.

For most installations, the default monitoring interval allows
sufficient time for the session to begin forming consistency
groups after it is started. However in some rare cases it may
be necessary to allow more time.

Problem conclusion

  • This PTF adds the capability to apply a global variable patch
that increases the time allowed for the session to transition
to RUNNING status. Contact IBM support for assessment should
this kind of failure occur. If the patch is appropriate, then
details for use will be provided in the support case.
