PH63743: TASK TIMES OUT AND ABEND AFCI AFTER WAITING ON A PRIVATE FILE STRING WITH NO USERS OF THE DATASET.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Problem occurs when a task timed-out waiting for a file string
  when there were no users of the dataset. The dataset had been
  recently converted to LOGREPLICATE(YES). VSWA trace table and
  Log shows the last tasks who used the data table abended AFDL
  and did not free its string.

  ****************************************************************
  The customer had two different files, defined with different
  replication logs. They issued a read update against one file,
  and this was processed successfully. They then issued a second
  read update, against the other file. Since CICS determined that
  this was unsupported for replication logging (as a different
  replication log cannot be used by the same UOW) the request was
  rejected with abend AFDL. However, the path taken on exit did
  not tidy up the outstanding VSAM environment that has resulted
  from the read update. Since the string was left in VSAM, the
  file lost one of its strings for future work. The customer had a
  file defined with three strings, and after three such AFDL
  abends, subsequent work was made to wait forever on a private
  string wait (FCPSSUSP).
  

Problem conclusion

• DFHFCVS has been changed to call routine freevswa, and so clean
  up the VSAM state for the task, when handling this error path.
