  *                 sort file. Note that a sort file can be      *
  *                 varying in length for multiple reasons,      *
  *                 including that it has multiple sort records  *
  *                 defined with different lengths in the file   *
  *                 section, or it has a single sort record that *
  *                 contains an ODO table, or the SD for the     *
  *                 sort file contains the RECORD IS VARYING     *
  *                 clause.                                      *

  *                 4. The program contains a SORT statement     *
  *                 with an OUTPUT PROCEDURE phrase that         *
  *                 specifies an output procedure that contains  *

  The COBOL compiler was generating code for a RETURN INTO
  statement for a varying length sort file that was functionally
  correct but not eligible for optimization by ABO, which by
  design, interpreted the code as being too complex to be subject
  to its processing.

  statements for varying length sort files that is supported by
  ABO.
