Error description

  • After updating to Fix Pack 8.5.5.26 or 9.0.5.20 the deployment
manager could fail to start due to corruption of the server.xml
    file.

    startManager command fails with:

    ADMU0113E: Program exiting with error:
    com.ibm.ws.exception.ConfigurationError:
              file:///IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/Dmgr/config/
    cells/CellName/nodes/NodeName/servers/dmgr/server.xml:78:
The element type "services" must be terminated by the
    matching
              end-tag "</services>"., resulting from:
              org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The element type
    "services" must be
terminated by the matching end-tag "</services>".

The issue is related to the "DataPowerMgr_inbound_secure" link
being removed from the port settings by APAR PH57089.

Local fix

  • Prior to upgrading Fix Pack 8.5.5.26 or 9.0.5.20:
    ------------------------------------------------------
Remove the transport chain DataPowerManagerInboundSecure and
port name DataPowerMgr_inbound_secure through the Admin Console.

If Fix Pack 8.5.5.26 or 9.0.5.20 has already been installed:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    --
Take a backup of the current server.xml file. Then, restore the
server.xml from a working backup or remove the associated
DataPowerManagerInboundSecure chain in server.xml that is
    causing the error.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: PH57089 included a script that removed *
    *                      DataPowerManagerinboundSecure from the  *
    *                      server.xml and serverindex.xml files    *
    * which could potentially lead to *
    * configuration errors that prevent *
    *                      servers from starting                   *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
In some cases, the script that removed the
    DataPowerManagerinboundSecure definitions from the server.xml
    and
serverindex.xml did not work properly. This lead to
    configuration
errors which prevented servers from starting. PH63012 removes
    the
script to prevent this issue in future fix packs.

Problem conclusion

  • The script that potentially leads to server start failures
    was removed.

The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack
9.0.5.22 and 8.5.5.27 For more information, see 'Recommended
    Updates for WebSphere Application Server':
    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/715553

NOTE: If you've already upgraded to fix pack 8.5.5.26,
9.0.5.20, or 9.0.5.21, this fix will NOT revert the changes
made to the server.xml and serverindex.xml. This APAR only
represents the change to prevent issues in future
fix packs. See the steps below for more details.

These steps should be done BEFORE upgrading to the
affected fix pack levels: 9.0.5.20, 9.0.5.21, or 8.5.5.26:

    1. In the administrative console, navigate to System
Administration > Deployment Manager > Ports and find
    "DataPowerMgr_inbound_secure"
    2. Click "View Associated transports"
    3. Select the "DataPowerManagerinboundSecure" transport chain
    and click
"Delete". This will delete the entries from the server.xml
    4. Then, navigate to System Administration > Deployment Manager
    Ports and select "DataPowerMgr_inbound_secure"
    5. Click "Delete". This will delete the entries from the
    serverindex.xml.

    If you've already upgraded to 9.0.5.20, 9.0.5.21 or 8.5.5.26,
the DataPowerManager definitions must be manually removed
from the server.xml and serverindex.xml files.

    server.xml:
    WAS_HOME/profiles/Dmgr01/config/cells/<cell>/nodes/<nodes>/serve
    /dmgr/server.xml

    What needs to be removed:
    Chains related to DataPower

    serverindex.xml:
    WAS_HOME/profiles/Dmgr01/config/cells/<cell>/nodes/<node>/server
    dex.xml

    What needs to be removed:
    Special endpoints related to DataPower
