PH62683: IBM MQ Z/OS: MISSING GLOBAL TRACE ENTRIES FOR LOOPING THREADS

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• If QMGR GLOBAL TRACE is turned on while a thread is looping in
  the QMGR, then the thread may not detect that GLOBAL trace has
  been turned on. This can lead to missing trace entries.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Enabling global trace does not take     *
  *                      effect for application tasks that are   *
  *                      already inside an MQI call. When the    *
  *                      MQI call encounters a loop situation    *
  *                      this results in no trace being captured *
  *                      for that task unless the trace was      *
  *                      already enabled prior to the MQI call   *
  *                      starting.                               *
  ****************************************************************
  When an MQI call is made, the status of global trace is cached
  in the EB associated with the task. If trace is subsequently
  started, the cached state is not updated, resulting in trace
  entries not being captured for the remainder of the MQI call.
  

Problem conclusion

• The cached trace state in the EB is refreshed whenever the task
  suspends (for example, due to an execution unit switch or latch
  wait).
