PH59973: ENHANCE IBM INTEGRATED SYNCHRONIZATION TO ADD RESILIENCE AGAINSTNETWORK ISSUES

Error description

• When replicating data from Db2 for z/OS to the IBM Db2 Analytics
  Accelerator or to IBM Db2 for z/OS Data Gate network issues can
  cause frequent restarts of the replication process to recover
  from these events. This adds overhead and delay to the
  replication processing. In very rase cases such network failures
  could go undetected leading to data corruption on the target.
  This APAR will enhance the protocol to better keep track of the
  successfully transferred data with the ability to retry failed
  communications.

  * Incremental updates of tables slowed                         *
  * down by network issues that cause the                        *
  * incremental update process to restart                        *
  * resulting in unnecessary overhead                            *

  * TCP/IP may not be detected and could                         *
  * result in missing updates on the                             *
  * target.                                                      *

  Network communication issues currently trigger a restart of the
  incremental update process which comes with a significant
  overhead to setup and re-read and process log records,
  especially when long running transactions are affected.
  Through erroneous behavior in TCP/IP data blocks were truncated
  before being sent and not signaled as broken. Depending on
  where this truncation occurred, it may go unnoticed in the
  apply processing and log record updates may be missed on the
  target.

Problem conclusion

• Code has been changed to always detect truncated data blocks
  and to facilitate retry capabilities for failed or incomplete
  log record transmissions instead of having to restart the
  entire process.
  Exploitation of these new capabilities will be provided with
  upcoming maintenance releases of IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator
  and IBM Db2 for z/OS Data Gate
