APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • HPIC is referencing a comment in SYSIN and regards it as an
internal HPIC control flag, and it attempt to go through a path
that should not be done in an IMS compatible JCL . As a result
JOB terminates with ABEND S0C4. Since comments should not be
referenced, HPIC code needed to be modified.

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the maintenance for this APAR *
    ****************************************************************
The Image Copy function that is invoked by the compatible JCL of
IMS Database Image Copy utility terminates with ABEND S0C4
( ABEND0C4 ) when character 'Y' is set in column 50 in SYSIN
    control statement.

In this type of execution, positions 50 to 80 of the control
statement are comments. But the Image Copy function reads
them, and if character 'Y' is set in column 50, IMS HP Image
Copy assumes it as the control data for Image Copy function. As
the result, IMS HP Image Copy performs the unnecessary
processing and tries to update the non-existent internal
    control block.

Problem conclusion

  • By this APAR, the Image Copy function that is invoked by IMS
compatible JCL reads up to column 49 in SYSIN card, and avoids
unnecessary processing, even if comments are set after column
    50.
