Error description

  • As a user of WebSphere Application Server, JDBC, and the Oracle
    JDBC driver when I use third-party libraries or applications
    that are written in
    a general manner for non-specific database calls, I find that
    I often have an over-abundance of DSRA8207I messages in my
    messages.log file. This is caused by the library or
    application inappropriately calling con.setReadOnly(false)
    which the oracle driver does not support. Since this is logged
    each time this method is called on a connection it could lead
    to the messages.log file increasing to an undesirable size.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    *                  Server                                      *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DSRA8207I is logged to messages.log     *
    *                      each time con.setReadOnly(false) is     *
    * called while using an Oracle *
    *                      datasource.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The Oracle JDBC driver does not support setting read-only to
    false. If a customer has a third-party application that is
    written for generic JDBC calls they will see the DSRA8207I
    message for each connection.

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere Application Server will now log this informational
    message once the first time it occurs and then be traced only
    as a debug message from then on.

    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack
    8.5.5.25 and 9.0.5.18. For more information, see 'Recommended
