PH53884: ERROR "BLOCK NOT IN ANY VOLUME RANGE" WITH PSE MULTI-VOLUME

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Customer has created an EXTRACT file which contains very large
  amount of data.
  The data set has been allocated as a PS EXTENDED, multi-volume,
  with a single stripe, and extents which exceed 65,535 tracks on
  a single volume.
  While the EXTRACT process itself complete without error, the
  report phase of such process issued the following error:
  
  *** ERROR *** ERROR FOUND DURING REPORT PHASE. SEE PROCESS
  REPORT FOR DETAILS
  and
  *** WARNING *** XF/AF not available for DETAILED REPORT
  
  An attempt to process the created EXTRACT file resulted in the
  following SysteError:
  
  Block not in any volume range

  Optim is incorrectly processing the EXTRACT, or ARCHIVE, files
  allocated as PSE, multi-volume with extents exceeding 65,535
  tracks on one, or more, volumes.
  

Problem conclusion

• Optim processing will be corrected.
  Note that the existing EXTRACT or ARCHIVE data sets created
  prior to this APAR are valid and will be correctly processed by
  Optim.
