APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • On IDz client v16.0 when attempting to select
Japanese CodePages 1390/1399 error message is shown stating
⠜invalid value⠝ or ⠜not supported⠝. Other Japanese Code
pages
like 930 or 939 work. This error is caused due to Java 11
not supporting these code pages.

Local fix

  • N/A

Problem summary

  • Since moving from Java 8 to Java 11, support for many code pages
 were dropped - including Japanese CodePages 1390/1399.
Resulting in ?invalid value? or ?not supported? when trying to
use and select those code pages.

Problem conclusion

  • Since Japanese CodePages 1390/1399 is no longer in Java 11, we
resorted to using Internal Components of Unicode - or ICU for
sure - to fill in the gaps and bring back support for missing
charsets.
