  * may occur during a retry of sort when                        *
  * sort attempts to internally do a                             *
  * varchar key reduction.                                       *

  An Abend04E 00E70005 in DSNXRFN M509 may occur during a retry
  of sort when sort attempts to internally do a varchar key
  reduction.
  This error happened during the phase two process of varchar
  key reduction when during the initial input phase an error had
  already occurred.  The code didn't recognize up front that an
  error had already occurred and attempted a retry of the sort
  input phase which caused the error.  This only happened if sort
  realized it could have internally done varchar key reduction
  where the last sort key is a varchar which could be reduced.
  

Problem conclusion

• Db2 has been modified to terminate sort if an error occurs
  during the input phase if sort is attempting to internally do
  varchar key reduction.
