Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM Z Performance and Capacity * * Analytics using the Health Metrics * * Scorecard. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1. IBM Z Performance and Capacity * * Analytics Health Metrics Scorecard * * displays excess data on the information * * cards. * * 2. IBM Z Performance and Capacity * * Analytics Health Metrics Scorecard * * detailed reports do not always * * display all data which is * * relevant to rule level and value * * calculations, or which would be * * convenient to display. * * 3. IBM Z Performance and Capacity * * Analytics Health Metrics * * Scorecard can display inconsistent * * data. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTFs. * **************************************************************** 1. IBM Z Performance and Capacity Analytics Health Metrics Scorecard displays excess or irrelevant data. a) Rule Thresholds in the Defined Workload Priority, Processor Pool Utilization, and Logical Utilization information cards are irrelevant. b) The text in the Read Hit/Miss Ratio information card contains excessive information. c) The Processor Pool Utilization detailed report SDP rule metric displays thresholds irrelevant to the processor type. d) Parked Engines Interval Percent rule metric yellow level description is unclear. e) The CF Utilization with Thin Dispatch rule level filter displays results with disparate rule levels to the selected filter. f) The Ineffective Simultaneous Multi-Threading detailed report displays excess data beyond the MVS System ID filter selected. g) The Drawer Memory detailed report rule level filter displays a red rule level filter option which is not required. h) Health Metrics Scorecard can display lower level results than the highest level occurrence for a rule on that date when filtered by a Rule Level lower than the highest result. i) Some rule information cards display a low and high threshold column despite there being no explicit thresholds assigned for that particular rule. j) Health Metrics Scorecard can display duplicate rows when there are multiple MVS System IDs. 2. IBM Z Performance and Capacity Analytics Health Metrics Scorecard does not display some data which is relevant to rule level and value calculations, or which would be convenient to display. a) The DASD Response Time detailed report does not have a Device Number column. The I/O Rate and Average Total Response Time per I/O values do not correlate with the produced Rule Value of the worst performing control unit. b) High Logical/Physical ratio detailed report does not have an Active LPARs column. c) The Workload Utilization detailed report does not display corresponding information on Workload Group. d) The KPMZHM01 report does not allow users to select more than one rule group to display when filtering. e) The DASD Contention Intensity detailed report does not have a Device Number column. 3. IBM Z Performance and Capacity Analytics Health Metrics Scorecard can display inconsistent data. a) The CF Utilization with Thin Dispatch detailed report Rule Level results do not match the corresponding result in the Health Metrics Scorecard. b) The Drawer Memory detailed report rule level results does not match the corresponding result in the Health Metrics Scorecard. c) The rule logic for System Capture Ratio, Variable Interval Length, and Paging I/O does not account for some divide by zero cases. d) Some rule information cards do not contain the full name of an abbreviation or abbreviations are not included where they could be.
Problem conclusion
Temporary fix
Comments
1. IBM Z Performance and Capacity Analytics Health Metrics Scorecard is enhanced to remove excess or irrelevant data. a) Irrelevant Rule Thresholds removed in the Defined Workload Priority, Processor Pool Utilization, and Logical Utilization information cards. b) The text "BCU" is removed in the Read Hit/Miss Ratio information card. c) The Processor Pool Utilization detailed report SDP rule metric joins on Processor type to produce only the relevant threshold. d) Parked Engines Interval Percent rule metric yellow level description is clarified. e) The CF Utilization with Thin Dispatch rule level filter now filters to display more correspondent data to the rule level selected. f) The Ineffective Simultaneous Multi-Threading detailed report now displays more accurate data corresponding to the MVS System ID filter selected. g) The Drawer Memory detailed report rule level filter no longer displays a red rule level filter option. h) Health Metrics Scorecard now only displays the highest level of each rule which occurred for that day. When it is filtered by a rule level lower than the highest for the corresponding date and rule, the rule will not be displayed on the scorecard. i) Rule information cards without explicit thresholds assigned no longer display an empty low and high threshold column. j) Health Metrics Scorecard no longer displays duplicate rows when there are multiple MVS System IDs. 2. IBM Z Performance and Capacity Analytics Health Metrics Scorecard is enhanced to display more data relevant to rule level and value calculations for increased clarity, or for convenience. a) Device number column is added to the DASD Response Time detailed report. I/O Rate and Average Total Response Time per I/O now also correlate to the produced rule value of the worst performing control unit. b) Active LPARs column has been added to the High Logical/Physical ratio detailed report. c) The Workload Utilization detailed report is grouped by Workload Group and a corresponding Workload Group column has been added. d) The KPMZHM01 report allows users to select more than one rule group to display when filtering via a checklist. e) Device number column is added to the DASD Contention Intensity detailed report. 3. IBM Z Performance and Capacity Analytics Health Metrics Scorecard is enhanced to display more consistent data. a) The CF Utilization with Thin Dispatch detailed report rule level results now match the corresponding result in the Health Metrics Scorecard. b) The Drawer Memory detailed report rule level results now match the corresponding result in the Health Metrics Scorecard. c) The rule logic for System Capture Ratio, Variable Interval Length, and Paging I/O accounts for divide by zero cases. d) The text for the full name of abbreviations and abbreviations themselves have been added to the relevant rule information cards.
