Error description
1. When using multiple collectors and partitioning on MVS_SYSTEM_ID, the AVAILABILITY tables can experience contention resulting in an Unavailable Resource error. SQLCODE = -911 with RESOURCE NAME DRLSCOM4, DRLSCOM5, DRLSCOM6 or DRLSCOM7. 2. Example profiles provided are not suitable for large systems with multiple parallel collectors.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM Z Decision Support Version * * 1.9.0 and IBM Z Performance and Capacity * * Analytics Version 3.1.0 who use multiple * * collectors and wish to use the z/OS * * Availability or Network Availability * * components. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1. When using multiple collectors and * * partitioning on MVS_SYSTEM_ID, the * * AVAILABILITY tables can experience * * contention resulting in an Unavailable * * Resource error. * * SQLCODE = -911 with RESOURCE NAME * * DRLSCOM4, DRLSCOM5, DRLSCOM6 or * * DRLSCOM7. * * 2. Example profiles provided are not * * suitable for large systems with * * multiple parallel collectors. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** 1. Default partitioning of AVAILABILITY tables is by growth. This is not suitable when running multiple parallel collectors, as they can experience lock contention. SQLCODE = -911 with RESOURCE NAME DRLSCOM4, DRLSCOM5, DRLSCOM6 or DRLSCOM7. 2. Default LOCKMAX of SYSTEM depends upon a Db2 system parameter (ZPARM) and may not be suitable for large systems with multiple parallel collects when partitioned by range. This can result in a Db2 resource unavailable message when maximum locks per user is breached. Default PCTFREE is 5% resulting in datasets being 5% larger than required after reorganization.
Problem conclusion
Temporary fix
Comments
1. The tablespaces and tables used by the z/OS Availability and Network Availability components are modified to use a default profile of 'SMF SYSTEM_ID' for partitioning. This allows the user to choose GROWTH or RANGE depending on their installation. A migration job allows quick set-up of the SMF SYSTEM_ID profile to match the partitioning of the SMF profile. A sample job allows conversion of existing AVAILABILITY tables from partition by GROWTH to partition by RANGE. 2. Range partition defaults changed. Default LOCKMAX is changed to 1000. Default PCTFREE is changed to 0%.
